This Kwoon is dedicated to the facilitating of the goal to become an excellent being. To know what it means to be an excellent being is the first step in this endeavor. Understanding may come to some in a very immediate way, even though understanding does not equal accomplishment. In other words, it may be that you understand how to make a vegetable soup. However, this understanding does neither, in itself, produce a good and tasty soup, nor does it make you a gourmet chef. It is enough to know that understanding leads to greater knowledge.

The first stage of Practice therefore is called, "The Opening of the Eyes". The opening of the eyes is both physical and mindful. To understand mindfully, is accomplished through meditative practice and by using the "Gohonzon" or Great Mandala. This is described in a wonderful essay, "Dr. Jacqueline Stone on the Object of Worship" (click for pdf download).

In the Opening of the Eyes, our activities include but are not limited to:

  1. Lecture and reading assignments
  2. Chanting and Gongyo
  3. Taijiquan simple forms - body-mind training
  4. Breath Training - body-mind connection
  5. Qigong - body-mind strengthening
  6. Fine Art (optional)

: Many students may find that they need not ever proceed further than this first stage. Indeed, the opening of the eyes provides continuous opportunity for growth and understanding, and can be a very rewarding place for those whose life course requires a steady and stable footing on which to build.

The second stage of practice is called, "The Gateway".

The Gateway is the beginning of a life path or "The Way".

  1. Lecture and reading assignments
  2. Chanting and Gongyo
  3. Taijiquan complete sets
  4. Qigong - advanced
  5. Pushing Hands training
  6. Meditation (optional)
  7. Sparing (optional)
  8. Fine Art (optional)

The Gateway training is very intensive and can take years to perfect. This varies of course, with the amount of time invested in the training. Here again, many students may be very satisfied to remain at this phase to complement their daily life activities and become more truthful and respect-worthy citizens.

The third phase of training is "The Way".

  1. Lecture and reading assignments
  2. Chanting and Gongyo
  3. Taijiquan complete sets
  4. Qigong - advanced
  5. Pushing Hands training
  6. Shaolin GungFu - White Crane Style
  7. Shaolin GungFu - Long Fist
  8. Chin Na
  9. Meditation
  10. Sparing
  11. Fine Art

This is the penultimate path for an excellent being. A lifetime of study could not exhaust the potential growth from this phase.

Advanced programs for apprentice training and instructor training are outlined in ELITE PROGRAMS.
